A place where the locals eat that is definitely worth stopping at if you are in the area. It is set up in a train car from the 40’s. The dining area isn’t big, but you can tell that they have had a lot of customers over the years. People were continually arriving while we were there. We had the popcorn shrimp dinner and a clam fritter sandwich. Very reasonable for local fresh seafood.
Small place with only a few seats. Excellent home cooked breakfast. Waitresses were very friendly. It was full when we got there, but we were given the last seat available. Ordering for take out was an option. Seems like a place the locals visit a lot.
staff is very friendly. We got take out. We got chicken tenders, fries, burger, catfish, mashed potatoes, fried apples, green beans, slaw and rolls. Chicken tenders and burger and catfish were good. Slaw, mashed potatoes and rolls were good but rolls were in a log and small. Wish they were bigger. Very disappointed however by the fried apples, they were the consistency of rhubarb sauce and had odd chunks that made me think of dough or something in them... Kinda made me think they gave us applesauce instead, but still wasn't applesauce. I've included a picture, the string beans were definitely overcooked canned southern style. I asked if they were canned or fresh and was told that they were frozen, but they definitely didn't seem like that... very mushy... I just wished they told me what they really were so I could've ordered something else...
A wonderful classic diner breakfast experience in a quaint neighborhood!
TL;DR: Excellent food, prompt and pleasant service, very cheap, coffee wasn't great so get OJ if you're picky about coffee.
On our way down for a quick 4-day weekend in the Outer Banks last month, we spent the night near Exmore and found this diner only minutes away from our hotel so we decided to give it a try before we got on the road again the next morning. And boy were we glad we did!
My wife and I both went with the breakfast specials, which for $6 offered 2 eggs any style, a breakfast meat (scrapple, sausage, bacon), toast, and either grits or hash (with an option to add fried onions). I went with the sausage and homemade hash with onions with my eggs and toast. The sausage was homemade and had that wonderful snap when you bit into it! The hash was tasty as well and the fried onions added a nice touch. My wife went with bacon and grits with her meal. The bacon was a generous four pieces and the grits were a unique southern compliment!
The only minor disappointment was the coffee, which was a bit bitter for our tastes, but after a subtotal of less than $20 even with our coffees, it certainly didn't break the bank.
Overall, this was a wonderful experience and anyone passing through the area like we were should stop by and give it a try! We both agreed that we would come back and probably shoot to try lunch or dinner next time!
Stopped by to pick up a take out order for breakfast and it was delicious! Small cute place on the inside and I love the set up. Booths are small and clean, they also have a seating area for sitting at the table counter. Very cute place and wish I lived closer! Loved my egg and cheese sandwich.
I guess this is a mixed review. Hubs seafood was good and fresh. The salads were decent - good size with lots of veggies but the greens were kinda mushy. Ranch was good and homemade. My hamburger steak had the piss cooked out of it. Like they tried to kill it twice. I ordered it medium well. It was also bland. The potatoes were good and the gravy was decent. Service was great. The place could use some maintenance and upkeep but it’s old and it’s vintage. I would recommend and would return. I just wouldn’t get the hamburger steak lol.
Great home style food and atmosphere. People were so friendly and food was great and large servings. Crab cakes were meaty and the chef salad was piled high. Recommend and a short walk from the hotels in Exmore. Just keep walking past the fast food places on the back road. I’m sure you will be pleasantly surprised.
I'm a local and I recommend this diner. Just beware we love the roast beef sandwich covered with gravy but they tend to run out quick or it's not available very often. Other items on menu are tasty and plentiful. Service is friendly and good. This is a small 6-8 booth with a 12-15 stool seat bar to eat. Ma-Pa atmosphere. Its one of those airstream looking diners.
